In a few short weeks a number of popular heritage sites will be opening their doors or stores to the public, free of charge, as part of the national Heritage Open Days 2008 campaign and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall is one of them.

The Maritime Museum is offering free tours of its store at Ponsharden offering you the opportunity to discover a hidden labyrinth of boats, objects and works of art during special guided tours with the Museum’s curators.

Tours should be booked in advance and are available from 10am to 11.30am and from 2pm to 3.30pm on all four days. For further details or to book your place, contact Michael Sweeney on 01326 214558 or email michaelsweeney@nmmc.co.uk

Heritage Open Days are co-ordinated nationally by the Civic Trust in partnership with English Heritage which core funds the event. This year over 2,500 fascinating properties across England will be opening their doors free of charge to the public as part of this specially coordinated weekend. Thousands of volunteers from all walks of life share their knowledge and memories with some 800,000 visitors every year, making Heritage Open Days England’s largest voluntary cultural event.
